Our purpose-built studio and activities room offers a unique space that will add another dimension to your stay in Skye.  We have put together resources, maps, guides, books, identification aids, hands-on instructions, and unique where-to-see information based on our extensive experiences and detailed knowledge of the local area.

There’s a telescope and binoculars for birding. The resident birdlife is varied and includes several regional specialities such as black guillemot, great northern and red throated diver, dipper and red grouse. Summer visitors include skylark, stonehchat, wheatear, cuckoo and, on the hills, ring ouzel.

There’s no light pollution at night so star gazing is a lot easier up here.  We’ve recently taken more of an interest in cloud watching and have added a new guide for 2017.

Rock pooling remains a family favourites among young and old alike.  There’s crab nets, trapping gear and everything you need to explore the seashore . For those into fishing we provide fishing rods and tackle so you can catch your own dinner!

The geology of Skye is fascinating and we’ve always loved beach combing for interesting specimens so fossil hunting gear is always popular.  The shores of Loch Scavaig hold some very fossil rich outcrops making it a happy hunting ground.

If you like your bugs and beasties there’s kit to set up your own mini-beast safari as well as nets for dragonflies and butterflies.  The bat detector makes being out in the dark even more spooky than usual.

The whole idea is to make a great way for adults and kids to have fun discovering the natural world outdoors together through a wide range of activities – there’s something for everyone!

The room also creates studio space for art activities or can be a playroom where the kids can chill out and explore the contents of the toy and games chest.
