Bag a Munro

How do you bag a Munro?  What even is a Munro? All the hills in Scotland higher than 3,000 feet are deemed to be Munros – named after the man who first listed all 282 of them.  Skye is a great place to bag a Munro – in fact there are 12 mountains classified as Munro’s on the island.   Eleven are on the main Cuillin Ridge and the 12th (Bla Bheinn – Blaven) is between Torrin and Elgol and so very handy to Springbank Cottage located in Elgol. You’ll need to be sure of your abilities as a scrambler as even the easier peaks require putting hand to rock at times.

Blaven near Elgol

Blaven is the nearest Munro to Springbank Cottage and readily accessible from the Elgol to Broadford road.

Guided climbing might be the best way to bag your Munro.  There a number of professional mountain guides on Skye who will help you bag a Munro or two.  They will assess your needs, advise on where to go and guide you up the signature peaks on the Cuillin Ridge.  Try: Skye Guides; Steven Fallon Mountain AdventuresSynergy Guides; Abacus Mountain Guides but there are others.
